Body-Hack as a Mutual Aid Fundraiser
Background: BODYHACK is a monthly party at NOWADAYS specifically catering to the TGNC community. BODYHACK’s most significant purpose is it’s fundraising abilities. BODYHACK is more than just a party but a COMMUNITY MUTUAL-AID fundraiser. BODYHACK features many vendors that often include TGNC owned businesses, everything from jewlery, perform, marijuana as well as important political organizations that inlcude the FREE GAZA movement and Callen Lorde. Here is some questions that our audience and readers would like to know.
What is BODYHACK’s origin stories. Why the name BODYHACK and how many years has BODYHACK operated?
Part of BODYHACK’s appeal is the ability for TGNCs to come together, find community and most importantly trans and gender non-conforming identity. The success is high turnout and a packed party / dancefloor every month. In fact BODYHACK frequently curates smaller events as a mutual-aid fundraiser as well most notably Bossa Nova Civic club. What is the recipe or secret to such success especially considering for BODYHACK pride, a two day pride rager the line all night took several hours to make it through the door.
It BODYHACK’s fundraising capacity how much has BODYHACK raised since it’s exception? The element that makes BODYHACK not only one of our favorite parties but a leader in creating financially feasible sliding scale door policies so TGNCs who may not be able to afford stil have access. Why is the sliding scale so important to y’all and do you think most parties if instituted successfully can also offer sliding scale to TGNCs.
Last but not least another important element of BODYHACK is the standard barrier in how to implement policies that keep our community safe include a breakdown of BODYHACK rules at the door. BODYHACK includes a zero tolerance policy for harassment or violence and in fact has staff member identitfied with bracelets to flag if any situations occur. BODYHACK also prominently features HARM REDUCTION tables like the organization BK Harm Reduction to supply testing supply kits and BODYHACK staff are also stocked and can administer NARCAN an important tool in saving lives for those encountering an overdose or medicial emergency? Why are these tools necessary and what is the cost in providing harm reduction resources for a party as large as BODYHACK that other parties can use as a resource?
